Oaxaca Sistema Cheve Cueva de la Peña Negra Calle de Papalo 1 2018     http://cavelife.info/maps/3957.pdf Huautla de Jiménez Concepción Pápalo Cheve Sierra Madre de Oaxaca The map was created by computer processing of the mapping data in Sistema Cheve. Lines in black represent Cueva Cheve as it was known before 2017. Lines in green represent new discoveries in 2017; lines in red are new discoveries in 2018. From this data, especially in the profile view, it is evident that the upper section of Cueva Cheve is a peripheral segment of the main cave system. PESH 2018. The sharp turn in the big passage, from northwest to northeast signals alignment with the geological fault that controls development of tunnels in Cueva Cheve, which lies almost 200 meters directly beneath these passages. The discovery of the gigantic (note the scale bar carefully in the map) “Calles de Papalo” section of the cave by Corey Hackley and Adam Byrd changed everyone’s perception of how Sistema Cheve formed. The huge Calles de Papalo tunnel is more than 200 m above the active river in Cueva Cheve, which lies directly beneath it. More such tunnels should exist to the east. AMCS Activities Newsletter no. 22, p. 88, 1997, Alan Warild. AMCS ActivitIes Newsletter 42, 2019, p. 17. Quintana Roo Sistema Toh Há  Sistema Toh Há  Cenote Chan Hol 1 2011 1 1 http://www.mexicancaves.org/maps/1733.pdf Chumkopó Solidaridad Tulum Carso Yucateco Exploration history Chan Hol's cave-diving potential was discovered in 2003 beside the federal highway 307, a tiny silted-in collapse that was ignored for a year until May 2004, when Kim Davidsson cleared enough of the sediment blocking the entrance to push beyond, into the large entrance room, and begin exploring the immensity of the cave within. The first dive undertaken lead to discovery of the downstream: smallish tunnels, highly decorated, thick sedimentation; consequently the huge upstream section was discovered and explored. Over the following three years, more than 17,000 ft. of line were laid, establishing the vast and fantastic Forza Line, parallel tunnels, occasional loops, split-level sections of cave. Beyond the main tunnel the cave traditionally becomes restricted and extremely silty. Chan Hol expanded, and several other explorers joined the search for cave, and by the end of 2006, at 17,000 ft. = 5182 m, it was one of the largest single-entrance cave systems in Quintana Roo. The direction of water flow, interestingly, tends to parallel the coast, flowing from SW to NE, rather than towards the sea, as had proven to be the case with the neighboring systems. In March 2007 it was connected to the larger system of Toh Ha in a collaboration between the teams of David Sieff and Nadia Berni and Alex and Thorsten Kampe. Kim Davidsson finally unravelled the data of neighbouring Ba'ab Zooz, and connected it into Chan Hol's Cherry line in March 2009. Total passage mapped and surveyed: 15,760 ft. = 4803 m.
